Equipment and Uniform Requirements

8u Railcats
  • Glove
  • Softball Pants (optional)

10u, 12u, 14, 16u, 18u
  • Navy batting helmet

  • Cleats (Metal cleats allowed at 14U and above only)

Other Equipment
  • Uniform jerseys are provided and must be returned at the end of the season.
  • Players can bring their own bats or use the provided bats. 
  • Catcher equipment will be available, or players may bring their own catching gear. 

What age division will my player participate in?

USA Softball has changed the age cutoff for the 2024 season.  Use the resources below to determine the age divisions for your players.

Evaluations and Team Placements

Evaluations will be held for all age brackets except the 8u Rail Cats.  Evaluations will serve to create the league teams and travel teams, so attending evaluations is required for all players. 

There will be up to 4 evaluation days tentatively starting in late March. Players should plan to attend a minimum of 2 of the 4 scheduled evaluations days, but players are encouraged to attend all 4 evaluations so we can get the best evaluation of the players.   If they cannot attend at least 2 of the evaluation days, please email info@gffastpitch.com.

Travel Team Tryouts

For girls aged 10U and up, there is an opportunity to try out for travel teams that will participate in tournaments around the region. To join these teams, players need to:

  1. Pay an additional $110 fee at registration, which covers all tournament registrations and extra practices.
  2. Participate in tryouts, which are required to join a travel team.

By participating in these travel teams, players can enjoy a more competitive and challenging experience in their sport, while also having the opportunity to travel and compete in various tournaments.

Being selected for a travel team depends on many factors including number of players trying out, number of travel teams in each age group, and player evaluations. Unfortunately, those factors mean that not all interested players may be selected for a travel team. Refunds will be issued if an interested player does not make a travel team.

Open Gyms

Open gyms are highly recommended to begin working on skills for the upcoming season. They also allow for some skill improvement prior to evaluations.

Girls should bring all their softball gear, and be sure to bring athletic shoes that can be used on concrete.  Layered clothes are suggested for varied temperatures in Gambucci or when it gets nice enough to go outside.

Open gyms are held at Gambucci Arena (1122 7th Ave S, Grand Forks, ND 58201), and will run until the fields are ready.  General times are below.  See the calendar for all dates and times.

All players must be registered prior to attending open gyms!

We highly recommend downloading the SportsEngine app to your smart phone for team specific information. This app will allow you to see your players schedule, and view and send messages to coaches and other parents.
